What’s your value proposition?

Facebooktwitterlinkedin

Value proposition is the #1 thing that determines whether people will read more about your product or leave your page. Get it right and it’s a big boost. The newer your company the better your value proposition needs to be, that’s because people don’t know about you yet so give them a teaser that makes them want more.

What is a value proposition?

It’s a promise of the value you deliver and the reason a customer should buy from you. It explains how your product solves their problem or improves their situation. For example when Apple first launched the iPod in 2001 they simply said, 1000 Songs in Your Pocket. It was clear, compelling and easy for the audience to understand. Notice there was no mention of the iPods tech features or memory size in the value proposition.

value proposition

Steve Jobs stated, the value Proposition is the clear articulation of what it is that you want your customers to know about you. That said a strong Value Proposition doesn’t include every benefit that you can deliver, therefore you should avoid the temptation to cram everything in.

Here are some more examples of good Value Propositions. I won’t go into depth about every website and why its VP works because each one would require its own in depth study, which would probably bore you to death and I get that. I just want to show you what a VP looks like at a glance so as to get your creative juices flowing and to make sure you pay more attention to your own VP when the time comes.

Lyft – Rides in minutes

Bitly – Shorten. Share. Measure

Mail Chimp – Send Better Emails

Evernote – Remember Everything

Vimeo – Make Life worth Watching

Apple MacBook – Light Years Ahead

Uber – The Smartest Way to Get Around

Your value proposition should be the first thing visitors see on your home page. It should be visible across your website and be jargon free. Remember the purpose of your VP is for your customers benefit and should speak to them in a language they understand and want to receive. In other words it meets their needs. What it shouldn’t do is turn them off with a description of the hoops you jump through to provide your service.

The VP examples I have shown you are all headlines and with all headlines there’s also an accompanying sub – headline, followed by a paragraph of text and a photo or graphics. And while there is no right or wrong way to do this there is a way that will help your competitive edge.

Feel free to use this formula as a start point to create your own VP

Headline/Attention grabber. In one short sentence describe the end benefit you are offering
Sub-headline. Come up with a 2-3 sentence paragraph providing a specific explanation of what you do or what you offer, who is it useful to and why.
Bullet points. List the key benefits or features.
Visuals. Images communicate faster than words. Show the product, the hero shot or an image that reinforces your main message.

Check that your VP answers the following questions.

•What product or service are you selling?
•What is the end-benefit of using your service or product?
•Who is your target customer?
•What makes your offer better?
Creating your VP can take quite a bit of work. Sometimes it’s the tiniest tweaks and nuances that make the difference and you’ll probably need some help with this however, you now have a good jumping off point to get you started, so your one step ahead already.

What is a business blueprint

Facebooktwitterlinkedin

business blueprint

Here we are again back to the old “ this sounds fab” routine. So what am I talking about this time? Well this time it’s the same but different. The same as in it’s about the promise of one size fits all,  different because it’s around an alternative albeit super important topic and on this occasion I’m talking the business blueprint and its effectiveness or lack thereof!

So what is a business blue print really about? business blue print

Allegedly it’s a specific set of steps or strategies that are guaranteed to make you a fortune in your business. I say allegedly because the claims are attractive but untrue and here’s why: Every woman and every business is unique. What works specifically for you will not and cannot work for anybody else because they are not you……. and your business is not their business!

Granted there are some standard strategies (depending what you’re looking for) that can be applied to different businesses but that alone won’t do anything for you except set you up to fail. What does work is when these strategies are used as a jumping off point and then very quickly using expert help, tailored and adapted to meet your specific needs. Now that might sound like a very subtle difference, believe me it’s not so here is a scenario to clarify what I mean:

Let’s suppose we have 2 health and fitness coaches who want to set up a business and they both need a website and a social media marketing strategy.

At a glance it appears straight forward. They both require the same set of basic business tools to begin with right? But very quickly you’ll discover they both need a completely different set of strategies and adaptations so that these tools can be applied and work specifically in their business.

I’ll call them coach 1 and coach 2

business blue printCoach 1 is a health and fitness coach that works with young professionals. She deals in HIIT Training (high-intensity interval training) which takes place in a gym using either personal training or group training programmes and for best results she combines this with the Paleo Diet.

Coach 2 is also health and fitness coach who works with women aged 50 and over. She teaches Yoga and Pilates to groups at her yoga retreats around the world and for best results she promotes the “Food Combining” method for better digestion.

Can you see already how these 2 businesses are in the same category, both health and fitness coaches however, they offer completely different services therefore their target audience or “ ideal client” are entirely different and as a result their respective businesses will need to reflect this from the outset.

So what are the differences in terms of their business start-up needs? Let me show you this in the most basic form

Coach 1 website requirements.

  • Clean, crisp, design using dynamic colours to reflect the pace and objectives of results orientated HIIT
  • Include a blog to share Paleo recipes and promote Paleo sponsored products
  • Opt in form to collect email addresses
  • Testimonials to evidence success stories

Marketing: to a young professional audience with little time to spare.

  • You tube channel or similar to share HIIT videos
  • FB page to share real time updates ad success stories
  • Twitter for fast and effective information sharing
  • Instagram feed for photo evidence and story sharing

Coach 2 Website requirements.

  • Soft colour pallet to reflect the gentler pace of Yoga and Pilates and the journey this entails
  • Spiritual and heart centred design format including visually stimulating details around the retreat locations
  • Blog for updates and retreat success stories
  • Newsletter sign up form
  • Personal information about the business owner including her own journey both spiritually and professionally

Marketing to an over 50 female audience

  • Private FB group: women over 50 are more inclined to share their struggles and stories in more intimate settings
  • Those who have attended the retreats can maintain their relationships with global attendees in the FB group.
  • Linked in: many senior female professionals more likely to use and invest in retreats can be found here
  • Linked in prospects can come over and join your private FB group to find out more.

These micro examples are just the tip of the iceberg but you can see already how much the needs of each business even though they business blue print
have the same title, differ considerably and that’s what it comes down to for you and every other business on the planet.

You have to get your head around your uniqueness, your individuality and what sets you apart from the competition that’s why a stand-alone business blueprint might as well be a schmuprint in terms of the overall impact it’s going to have on your business.

Be sure keep an open mind, know that a business blue print, should you decide to use one, is merely a jumping off point and a very expensive one at that. It’s not a Magic Wand, it’s not the Holy Grail or the Master Key and if you follow this approach, as many people do, just know you’ll still have a long way to go in terms of adapting any kind of business blueprint to meet your specific needs.

If you do need help adapting your business blue print or if after reading this you decide ( sensibly) a blue print purchase is not for you then you’ll probably find what you’re looking for in The Fast Class.  Misguidedly I used to follow blue prints too and I learned the hard way this just wasn’t working for me.

So I’ve taken years of trial and error and condensed this into a one day prep class to cut through the online start up maze, using tools and strategies that are specifically tailored on the day to meet your business start up needs. How do I know it will meet your needs? It’s a 1 to 1 accelerated learning experience that’s all about you from start to finish. It’s not a blue print and it’s definitely not a one size fits all!

From my heart to yours thank you for taking the time today  Dee X

What if you could breeze through the startup maze?

Facebooktwitterlinkedin

startup mazeThe Start Up Maze

The startup maze is a scary phenomenon made up of all kinds of moving parts depending who you talk to. So I’m going to share a story with you that had I known about earlier, would have speeded up my business journey by 3 years. First let me give you some background.

Between 2008 and 2010 I had two heavy duty family responsibilities to take care of. Both were long term with some overlap  between the two and one responsibility could have fallen to other family members to take care of?

As a self confessed over functioner and the one who was deemed by the rest of the family as possessing an outstanding set of coping skills I was nominated and gladly accepted both roles with  love and determination.

At that time I had just sold my long term  brick and mortar business, one that had made me a good living for a very long time so I was cash rich.  I had been time poor for over twenty years and I was sick of that so now I was ready for change. I wanted to start an online business, a challenge that was completely new to me. One that would give me the life I was seeking and one I could easily put on hold while I took care of my family.

Having just sold up: my bank balance was good and it needed to be because I was taking a good chunk of time off, although at that point I couldn’t have know I would be without income for as long as 2 years.

I wasn’t worried though, This was a good thing I was doing. Their need was greater than mine and in any case the good lord would prevail and the universe would conspire in my favour wouldn’t it?

During the 2 years I didn’t earn a penny, I couldn’t, I was committed elsewhere and while I did do some preliminary work on setting up my new business that was mainly research and information seeking. Still being time poor , given the commitments I had taken on, I was unable to do anymore than that.

By now I was becoming cash poor as well.My bank balance began to shrink. I still had bills and living costs and wasn’t being paid for the time I had given up ( I knew I wasn’t going to be) but still I wasn’t too worried. Why should I be, once these big family commitments were over I would start my new business and get back to me. ( wouldn’t I? )

By the end of it all  I had no money left.  The 2 commitments had ended, one resulted in death ( terminal illness) and the other resulted in making sure a beloved member of my family was fully recovered and on the road to a new life.

And here I was broke BUT I still believed everything would  be fine because I deserved it all to be fine right?

Wrong: and once I realised this was not the case, I was sick to my stomach. Not only at the realisation I had a long and  broke road ahead of me: but at my own naiveté brought about by that self deluding  mantra I’d fed myself everything will be fine, money will come from somewhere and my new business will appear as if by magic because I deserved it.

So it was time to reflect

sratup mazeI was down but not out I still had the same dreams and goals and  with tenacity on my side I could do this, but first I needed to look at what had gone so wrong and what was the lesson?

After much soul searching it wasn’t hard to identify this really was  all my fault. After all, millions of women around the world take on extra family commitments, many a lot worse than mine. As women with families we are not only willing but often expected to take on these extra roles, as care givers it’s what we do. Besides who else is going to do it? So lets not minimise the fact there is an expectation placed  upon us and so there are going to be times when you just have to suck it up and get on with it.

I couldn’t and wouldn’t have changed my decision to commit to care. It brought some very deep rewards with it but none of them were financial and no matter how we dress it up it is a fact that you need money to live and regardless of what you’ve given up to help someone else, self sacrifice wont pay the bills.

So what was the lesson

okay so none of us know what’s round the corner and while I hope not, there is always the possibility that I might be called on again for care and support. That said this time I’ll be ready when the family comes calling and I’ve been able to do that by making sure i’m prepared.

You’ll remember I had to put my new business idea on hold for 2 years? Once I was able to work on it again I didn’t have the money to build a team or get people to show me what to do. The one resource I did have by now was time ( that was all I had) so I got to work building this business under my own steam.

I learned and implemented everything myself and believe me there are a lot of moving parts to getting this stuff all set up. From opt in lists to building my own website and everything in between and with no previous experience in this field, I literally learned it all from scratch.

It was a long and lonely road and it took me three years working and struggling on my own. ( so that’s 5 years in total with no income of my own) I learned far more than I’ll ever need but I didn’t know what I was doing, so I learned what I thought I needed, only to discover later I was able to dump 80 percent of that in favour of the 20 percent I actually needed. That equates to about two and half years of learning I didn’t need. OMG!

There is good news though

Now that I’ve learned it all I’ve ben able to do 2 things:

By streamlining my knowledge and expertise  I’ve been able to dump the excess and create a programme: that walks you through the start up maze in small manageable chunks.  FYI that’s the complete opposite to how I did it.

In doing this I’ve created the income I need to enjoy the lifestyle I was seeking. Which also means: the next time the family startup maze
comes calling
I will be able to commit without the fear of going broke again. And I don’t mind telling you that feels good…

For now though I am enjoying everything that comes with this business not least the opportunity to meet and work with some lovely, talented and amazing women and the fact you’re on this page tells me you could be one of them!

How does this help you?

Well you can do it the hard way like me and struggle on your own for 3 years give or take or you can:

What is a 6 figure launch and how do you make it happen?

Facebooktwitterlinkedin

The six figure launch and the myth behind it

Okay for the uninformed, the newbie, and the start – up or the brave: whatever you want to call yourself, I want to break something down for you. You may not like it, you may feel disappointed even disillusioned but at least you’ll know the truth and be able to make a decision on what to do next (if anything)

So once again the internet particularly FB is awash with promises of 6 figure launches and million dollar lifestyles all being lived and made possible by coaches from a variety of sectors, promising a quick fix solution on how you can achieve the same.

What is a six figure launch

In brief: a six figure launch is where the provider creates a product or service ( offer) that others want to buy and this is generally priced anywhere from $297 – $997 at the lower end up to multiple thousands of dollars at the higher end.

A popular offer is a “group coaching” programme: with no physical products involved, the course is completed online sometimes with live coaching on a tele  -call, pre recorded videos, workbooks and downloads.

Prior to the launch you whip up interest via your mailing list, social media platforms, networking events and any other outlet where you can let as many people as possible people know about your up coming offer.

In theory once you’ve done that you simply pull the trigger on launch day and BOOM tons of people buy your offer.( sounds easy right)

For the record in terms of my continued professional development and the fact that I am a life long learner, I am a fan of online teaching/training courses. I buy them, I use them and I love them: But this post is about creating and selling these courses aka the six figure launch and how easy it is to do that ( allegedly).

Reality check

For those who have and continue to achieve the six figure launch ( some have) believe me it has taken them years to get there and part of what they’re selling to you is a version of how their life and business model looks now: What they leave out is what it took to get them there or what they had to learn, implement and pay for in order to eventually succeed.

Why would they leave out something so important?

In this world of instant gratification and immediacy the hook is to get you to believe you can achieve this great life and great business right now

Before I go further I want to say that my idea of a great life and business might be completely different to yours in fact you might even hate my life: so I’ll give you a snapshot just for clarity. I work hard and I work a lot of hours but on the upside I choose the hours and can move these around and reschedule in a way that suits me.  No boss to tell me what to do! For me that’s’ a big plus although you might say “oh shit I didn’t think I’d still have to put the hours in” if I’m working for myself? Well you do and for a good while to begin with.

The extra time I have managed to put aside to do what I want  is not spent lounging in spas and hotels except on special occasions. Some of the free time I’ve worked to secure is spent with my husband making up for the “us time” we lost while grafting to build our respective businesses. During “ us” time we do ordinary things like go out for a nice lunch on weekdays and call in to Costco on the way back or take a drive to the coast and have a beach walk because we need the exercise.

But these ordinary things are “extraordinary” to us because in the early days we didn’t have the time or the money to just opt out of work at short notice to go and do what we wanted. Yes we have days where we spend money and relax, but not every day.

6 figure launchA lot of my free time is also spent with my 2 young grandchildren doing things together as a family like walking, baking, homework or  even Jumparoo and we love it.

Do you see what I’m saying: my great life might be your worst nightmare? So in my business I’m not selling you my life. I’m trying to help you create your great life whatever that may look like for you.

Okay getting back to those 6 figure launches that promise you buckets full of money in order to bank roll  “your great life”, you may have noticed I never promise this in fact I don’t mention or guarantee any sums of money you’ll earn  from working with me because working in the beginners space as I do, these claims are not my truth.

My truth is I stop you from having to pay the stupid tax

What I guarantee is you will save lots of money and time and effort by working with someone who knows how to get your business set up and out the gate faster. Now that’s a promise I can deliver. And for a newbie or someone who’s stuck that should be your #1 goal because without your business being set up and launched ( unless you’ve invented the next big thing) there’s not much prospect  of  you getting to the bigger stuff and if you try to get to the big stuff before you’ve put the smaller stuff in place, that’s when you start paying stupid tax.

FYI stupid tax is the price you pay when you don’t know what you’re doing  but you go ahead and do it anyway. Stupid tax is made up of the time and money you waste or spend on fixing those things you should have addressed first. In other words, it’s a lot cheaper to do it right than to have to do it twice or three times.

Here’s another reality check:

There are a lot of moving parts to creating and achieving a successful six figure launch and if you want this to happen for you quickly as promised in “the gurus sales fluff”, you’ll need to be in possession of a small fortune to either pay a team to do it for you or purchase the various software to bring all the moving parts together and ensure a profitable launch early on. I suspect as a newbie you don’t have that kind of money yet.

Another way and the most common is:

Over an extended period of time you will learn how to do some or all of this yourself. It will take hard graft, long days and late nights. You will learn one moving part only to realise there is another one to learn and another and another. There will be tears, doubts, set-backs and pressure from family or loved ones to hurry up and make some money and eventually you might have a 5- 10 or 20k launch to begin with and you build on that. That is the reality!

So as a newbie may I respectfully recommend:

6 figure launchThe next time you see the promise of how to create a six figure launch in 30 days, with a picture of a couple sitting on a jetty overlooking crystal blue waters in the Maldives : know you are being offered someone else’s dream. A dream that for a beginner is not a reality, not  just yet,. it is doable although not for a beginner and if someone tells you otherwise, run the other way!

A 6 figure launch is possible so long as you are honest about:

  • What it  actually takes
  • Where you are right now
  • Your expectations
  • Time scale
  • Skills set
  • Skills gaps
  • Budget
  • Desire to succeed

In conclusion

You wouldn’t build a house without a foundation because it would fall down. The same is true of your business and that includes planning 6 figure launches or six figure anything’s that creates luxury lifestyles. So  my advice is start small and scale up!

Lets face it if you already had the money, knowledge and expertise to do a six figure launch, you wouldn’t be on this page and if after this post you still have the stomach for setting up your own business, here is my latest book that really will help you move forward. The book is filled with practical information you can implement from day one with a few surprises thrown in along the way. https://amzn.to/2AWklSJ

How to get from career to calling in 5 easy steps

Facebooktwitterlinkedin

“Your career is what you’re paid for your calling is what you’re made for”

I absolutely love the line above and whenever I say it to women; I see light bulbs coming on all over the place. How did you feel when you read it? It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that you thought to yourself Oh yes I know what she means and it’s true because there are so many of you who are doing a job right now that isn’t in line with your calling. In other words you’re busy doing this when you’d much rather be doing that.

 1. So how do you get from career to calling and can you have both?

The thing is there’s probably an unfulfilled desire you didn’t get to yet because you’ve been so busy with other responsibilities including a job that pays the bills. For many of you in this situation there is now an overwhelming urge to share your vast knowledge and expertise and give others the benefit of what you know. You’ve had your eye on the prize for years and at last you have the inclination to make it happen although chances are you’re feeling a little bit vulnerable right now because you don’t know where to start and you’re afraid to move out of your comfort zone. ( that’s normal)

 2. Here’s what I know…..

When it comes to setting up a new business even the most experienced and qualified among you will have discovered a skills or knowledge gap that’s keeping you stuck.  Take heart: It takes real honesty and integrity to admit there’s something missing from your plan. The good news is if you can admit this with openness and transparency you will be able to focus your energies on addressing any short falls and overcoming your fears.

 3. First things first

I am not suggesting you give up your day job and jump right in ( that would be irresponsible of me) unless of course you already have the money behind you to do that. But before you spend any money setting up a new business you should first visit your calling. Get clear on who you are and what led you to this decision. What it is you want and who do you want to serve? You also want to think about how you will make money from your calling along with how and where you intend to do this? Without an understanding of these fundamentals you’re unlikely to be satisfied or productive moving forward.

 4. If you want to grow a business you have to grow yourself.

Being honest about where you’re at right  now will also help you identify who or what it is you need to move you forward with your goals and aspirations. A good place to start is with someone who’s already been where you are now and has already overcome the obstacles your currently faced with. Doing this will earn you the respect and the ear of your chosen coach, mentor or trainer and before you know it you’ll be moving forward in your business and with your life.

 5. Imagine what its like for a moment

to experience the freedom that comes from knowing you’re headed in the right direction with the right person for the right reasons. I would be privileged to guide you to what you are currently aspiring and to that which deep down you already know awaits you…………. You’ve said it yourself it’s your turn now: So if you’re ready to step onto your own path of greatness I am here to hand hold you through it.

My personal guarantee

If you do nothing – nothing will change………… If on the other hand you’re ready to take action, I can help you move forward quickly. From ideas to implementation I might just be the person you’re looking for so feel free to click the link below and find out more.

Thank you for taking the time today
